One simple strategy for making your biz feel true to you this year
When I imagine my ideal 2018, it involves being cozied up with some candles + crystals, wearing my comfies, sipping a cup (or 2) of coffee, feeling energized + content… and that’s just my typical work day.
Doesn’t that feel GOOD for your soul, mama… so simple + graceful + aligned?
Don’t get it twisted, last year was filled with some major growth moments and they were beautiful: welcoming my sweet baby June into the world (+ easing my way back into my business), launching a new coaching program (the True to You Mastermind for social marketers + entrepreneurs who want to grow their business in a way that feels authentic) + remodeling our little home to feel pretty + light-filled for my family to grow in. But...
I’m feeling a little more GODDESS and a little less WARRIOR this year...
A little more grace and a little less push…
A little more alignment and a little less hustle…
A little more “trust-then-let-it-go” and a little less “must-do-ALL-the-things...”
… all while continuing to welcome in financial abundance for my family that this beautiful business offers.
If you’re feeling me, and want to grow your business in a way that feels a little more like YOU and what you soul calls for this year…
Here is one simple strategy you can use to add a little more of that graceful, authentic, goddess-like YOU to your business..
Simplifying Strategy: Be honest about what’s working and what’s not… and let some sh*t go.
Becoming an entrepreneur has made me a bit attached to the way that things work out… the success of my work determines whether or not I’m contributing financially to the family, and there’s more pressure in that than there was when I was a steady-paycheck-earning school psychologist.
As a mama, no matter how much I try to control how quickly Holden learns to pee on the potty, or how much I yearn for baby June to just...sleep...through….the….night, I’ve learned to let go of the way that things play out in my sweet family (because, let’s be honest, no matter how frustrated or exasperated I get, nothing really occurs on a perfect timeline).
But, in my business, I’ve been less likely to laugh off my desire to control the way that something grows… a.k.a. I WANT 3 NEW CLIENTS YESTERDAY, DAMMIT!
Maybe it’s because Holden + June are so adorable (I may be biased as their mama but I swooooon), so it’s easy to love them even when things don’t work out the way I want them to. And I think there’s a business lesson to learn here….
To a certain extent, my business is another baby to me. I care deeply about its effect on the world and know how important my role is in it’s evolution, but…
Sometimes I forget that I can’t control my daily business outcomes, or what my business accomplishes and by what date, or how other people will interpret what I’m sharing.
Just like there are things that I do as a mama that are super helpful (like keeping my kids on a flexible-but-still-existing daily routine), there are things I do as a business owner that are super effective (like connecting with like-minded people in an authentic way and introducing them to opportunities that could make their life happier, like the True to You Mastermind).
There are also things I do as a mama that are super ineffective (like barking at Holden for waking up his baby sister), and there are things I put way too much energy into as a business owner that rarely, if ever actually produce the desired growth in my business (like spending eternityyyyyy scrolling through social media #downtherabbitholewego).
If there are strategies that are working for you, let them work, and work them well this year (like reaching out to people with authentic FB messages + getting out of the house to meet new friends that turn into business partners)!
If there are things that, no matter how hard you’ve tried to s-q-u-e-e-z-e results out of them, have NOT had a positive effect on your business, then let that sh*t go (like spending all day scrolling social, or posting every day because you should)...
...and use that time for other enjoyable mama or business owner things (like creating a blog because you’re craving a place to be creative, or finding entrepreneur friends to drink champagne with on a Tuesday) !
As a mama + a social marketer (and coach), I just want to let go of the hustle… the push… the I-should-be-doing-more… the warrior spirit… the expectation that my business should be growing faster (just like my babies, sometimes I just can’t control that)…
I want to release the fear that if I-don’t-post-today-I’ll-miss-an-opportunity… AND drop a bomb on the idea that I’m not doing enough and instead, embrace the many things I’ve done thus far that HAVE worked (so well that I am financially providing for my family)...
AND I want to embrace my GODDESS-like business spirit, enjoying how good it feels to focus my time on the things that work really well for my business (while wearing comfy clothes).
Wanna join me mama?
Let’s assume we’re giving enough + doing enough… and that hustle-hustle-hustle strategy isn’t necessary this year.
I’m headed upstairs to kick off these jeans, put on some cozy clothes, give my babies some love + make some soul nourishing coffee (then I’ll send a few more authentic FB messages)…
xoxo Bri
